Conditions
Hip pain
Joint, tendon and referred pain.
You don't need imaging to message us; if you need any, we'll tell you which. Or tell us about your pain first
Not every “hip” pain starts in the joint. Sometimes it is the trochanter, sometimes it is lumbar pain traveling down, sometimes it is true joint degeneration of the femoral head. The evaluation is there so the wrong site is not injected.
What we assess
- Groin pain when walking or putting on shoes
- Lateral (trochanter) pain when lying on that side
- Hip osteoarthritis
- Gluteal or periarticular tendinopathy
- Bursitis
- Instability or aftermath of injury
- “Hip” pain that is actually from the spine or the sacroiliac joint
Approach
The deep hip is examined and, when intervention is indicated, ultrasound guidance is preferred. In selected patients prolotherapy, viscosupplementation or another regenerative protocol may be considered.
What this does not promise
A hip with advanced destruction is not “regenerated” in the office. Joint replacement still has an indication. Results vary. Lateral pain and groin pain are not treated the same way.
Frequently asked questions
Does hip pain always come from the joint?
No. Sometimes it comes from the greater trochanter, the outer side of the hip, which hurts especially when lying on that side. Other times it comes from the lower back or the sacroiliac joint. And sometimes it is true wear of the joint. That is why an evaluation comes first: so the wrong spot is not treated. Pain on the outer side and pain in the groin are not treated the same way.
Why do you use ultrasound?
Ultrasound makes it possible to see the structure being treated and to guide the needle with greater precision. It helps the procedure be performed more safely and accurately.
What imaging do I need for the evaluation?
Ideally, X-rays of the painful area (knee, hip, shoulder, spine or other) taken within the last year. If you already have an MRI or ultrasound, those help too: share them on WhatsApp before your visit. If you do not have recent imaging, we tell you which studies to get before booking.
Do I have to come in to find out whether this treatment is right for me?
Not necessarily. We know that getting around can be hard when you are in pain or have limited mobility. With your symptoms and your imaging, we can guide you on WhatsApp about whether a visit makes sense. That guidance is not a consultation or a diagnosis: the treatment decision is made at the consultation, after the physical exam.
How much does the consultation cost? And the treatment?
The evaluation visit costs MXN $500 (Mexican pesos). Treatment (prolotherapy, viscosupplementation, injections or another procedure) has no fixed price: it depends on the area, the procedure and the number of sessions you need, which are decided at your evaluation. Before starting, we tell you the cost of your plan.
