FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Short answers about procedures, expectations and how to book.
What is prolotherapy?
It is a regenerative procedure. A proliferant solution is applied to weakened ligaments, tendons or joints to stimulate the body’s own repair response. It is not surgery. The goal is to improve function and pain in selected patients.
What other procedures do you perform?
In addition to prolotherapy: viscosupplementation, growth factors, arthrocentesis and ultrasound-guided injections. The specific procedure is chosen after you are assessed, not by picking a package.
Is this a surgical treatment?
No. These are minimally invasive techniques intended to support the body’s own repair process. When surgery is indicated, that is stated clearly and the patient is referred.
How do I book an appointment?
By WhatsApp at 33 1501 3675. Before booking, we review your case there. We ask about your symptoms and your imaging; if something is missing, we tell you what to bring. If you like, you can send us that information ahead of time with the pain questionnaire on this site. If what you share suggests your case needs a different kind of care, such as a surgical evaluation, we tell you right there. That way you do not have to travel. This guidance is not a consultation or a diagnosis. Consultations are strictly by appointment: in Guadalajara Monday through Saturday, and in Mexico City one week a month.
How much does the consultation cost? And the treatment?
The evaluation visit costs MXN $500 (Mexican pesos). Treatment (prolotherapy, viscosupplementation, injections or another procedure) has no fixed price: it depends on the area, the procedure and the number of sessions you need, which are decided at your evaluation. Before starting, we tell you the cost of your plan.
Are results guaranteed?
No. Results vary depending on the person, the tissue and what has already been tried. Expectations are reviewed honestly during the consultation.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no fixed number. Tissue repair happens in phases; a chronic injury is not resolved in a single visit. The plan and the follow-up are defined case by case. Follow-up matters as much as the procedure itself.
Does the injection hurt?
Local anesthetic is used to reduce discomfort during the procedure. Even so, you may feel pressure, contact or mild discomfort. Before starting, we explain what you may feel and what aftercare to follow. Ultrasound allows the procedure to be done with greater precision, although it does not completely remove the sensation of the needle.
Why do you use ultrasound?
Ultrasound makes it possible to see the structure being treated and to guide the needle with greater precision. It helps the procedure be performed more safely and accurately.
Does every meniscus tear need surgery?
No. A meniscus tear is common, and not every case requires surgery. Depending on the type of injury and the symptoms, some can be managed with conservative care and, in selected patients, with a regenerative approach. Sometimes the knee locks and you cannot fully bend or straighten it, or there is an injury that compromises its stability. Then a specialized evaluation is needed. In those cases, we may recommend assessment by a trauma and orthopedic specialist.
Does every disc herniation need surgery?
Not always. Having a disc herniation on an image does not necessarily mean surgery is needed. Treatment depends on the symptoms, the physical exam and how function is affected. The goal is to reduce pain and inflammation and to improve mobility and function. When there are warning signs or an injury that requires surgery, evaluation by a spine, trauma and orthopedic specialist is recommended.
Does every rotator cuff injury need surgery?
No. Not all shoulder pain comes from the rotator cuff, and not every rotator cuff injury needs surgery. A clinical diagnosis comes first; ultrasound helps to see the tendon and the bursa. Surgery is still needed for some tears and when the shoulder keeps dislocating. Results vary.
Does hip pain always come from the joint?
No. Sometimes it comes from the greater trochanter, the outer side of the hip, which hurts especially when lying on that side. Other times it comes from the lower back or the sacroiliac joint. And sometimes it is true wear of the joint. That is why an evaluation comes first: so the wrong spot is not treated. Pain on the outer side and pain in the groin are not treated the same way.
What is the difference between prolotherapy and viscosupplementation (hyaluronic acid)?
They are different treatments that can complement each other. Viscosupplementation consists of placing hyaluronic acid inside the joint, mainly to improve the joint environment and help ease pain and discomfort associated with joint degeneration. Prolotherapy, by contrast, seeks to stimulate a repair response in structures such as ligaments, tendons and entheses. Entheses are the zones where these tissues attach to bone. In some patients, combining both therapies can be useful because it addresses both the joint itself and the structures that support and stabilize it. The combination and the number of applications depend on the injury, the symptoms and each patient’s evaluation. They do not do the same job, but they can complement each other within a personalized treatment plan.
Can this help pain that travels down my leg or arm?
It may be radiculopathy or another cause. Not all of those presentations require surgery, and not all are candidates for intervention. Diagnosis comes first; options are discussed after that.
What is hydrodissection and when can it help?
Hydrodissection is an ultrasound-guided technique. A solution is used to gently separate a nerve from the tissues around it when there is compression, adhesion or irritation. By freeing the space around the nerve, the aim is to reduce pressure and make it easier for the nerve to move. This may help ease pain, tingling or other discomfort related to nerve irritation. It may be considered in some cases of entrapment or irritation of peripheral nerves. That is always after the cause and the site of the problem have been identified. Not every case of sciatica requires hydrodissection, because treatment depends on the origin of the symptoms and on each patient’s evaluation.
Do you only see patients in Guadalajara?
No. There are consultations in Guadalajara and in Mexico City. In Guadalajara, at Bari Medical Center, San Juan de Los Lagos 21, Vallarta Poniente. In Mexico City, at Medical San Francisco, Rosa María Siqueiros 229, San Francisco Culhuacán, Coyoacán, one week a month, usually around the end of one month and the start of the next; ask us for the dates on WhatsApp. All visits are by appointment.
Do you see patients from the United States or Canada?
Yes. The consultation can be in English. Booking works the same way: message us on WhatsApp at +52 33 1501 3675 with your symptoms and, if you have them, your imaging (X-rays, MRI or ultrasound). That way we can review your case before you travel. We see patients in Guadalajara and, one week a month, in Mexico City. All visits are by appointment.
What imaging do I need for the evaluation?
Ideally, X-rays of the painful area (knee, hip, shoulder, spine or other) taken within the last year. If you already have an MRI or ultrasound, those help too: share them on WhatsApp before your visit. If you do not have recent imaging, we tell you which studies to get before booking.
Do I have to come in to find out whether this treatment is right for me?
Not necessarily. We know that getting around can be hard when you are in pain or have limited mobility. With your symptoms and your imaging, we can guide you on WhatsApp about whether a visit makes sense. That guidance is not a consultation or a diagnosis: the treatment decision is made at the consultation, after the physical exam.
Do you issue invoices (factura)?
Yes, we issue invoices for consultations and treatments. To request one, message us on WhatsApp at 33 1501 3675 and send your up-to-date tax status certificate (Constancia de Situación Fiscal). The invoice is issued within 1 to 2 business days after your payment is confirmed.
